Newport Beach City Arts Commission
Unveils Butterfly Art Sculpture
Newport Beach, CA
(April 19, 2005) – A butterfly sculpture created by Newport Beach Arts
Commissioners Kathy Harrison and Arlene Cartozian
will come to rest Wednesday, April 27 at the Environment Nature Center in
Newport Beach.
The sculpture, purchased by the City of Newport Beach and the Arts Commission
as part of the Butterfly Initiative Project, supporting Orange County arts and sciences
education endowments, became a labor of love for the two artists who are
dedicated to enriching the arts and cultural environment of the city. Entitled
“Dawn to Dusk in the Estuary,” the butterfly sculpture will be placed outside
the Butterfly House at the Environmental Nature Center. “The location is perfect,” said Mayor Steven
Bromberg, “It’s the only Orange County environmental center to
have such a place.” Filled with butterfly-friendly plants,
the Butterfly House was recently constructed thanks to generous
donations from the Rotary Club of Newport-Balboa and the Okazaki South
Rotary Club from Newport's Sister City Okazaki, Japan.
Mayor
Bromberg will unveil the sculpture at Environmental Nature Center on Wednesday, April 27 at
5 p.m. The public is invited to the
unveiling at 1601 16th Street in Newport Beach.
